Accessing Bowdoin Network Files Securely Using the Mobile Echo App for iPad

Mobile Echo is an application that provides a way for iPads to connect securely to Bowdoin's network file server and view files. Use it to view or take notes at a meeting, create new documents or even edit existing files. There are many new features since it first came out including a new name (Acronis) and icon!

This class is for people:

1. with Bowdoin iPads who use or have used the Mobile Echo Application to access their files from Bowdoin's network

2. with Bowdoin iPads who have never used Mobile Echo before and ae interested in seeing how it works.

Cleaning up and formatting your data using Excel

Creating Presentations Using Apple's Keynote for iPad

Keynote is Apple's visually rich version of Powerpoint and can be used on both a Macintosh computer and on iOS devices (iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch). In this iPad session we will create a quick Keynote presentation using text and images and look at some of the other features that can be used - all without the use of a mouse! We will discuss things to think about when creating a Keynote or Powerpoint presentation on your computer and making sure it displays correctly on your iPad. Please bring your iPad with you!

Editing iMages using Apple's Preview application (Macintosh only)

InDesign Basics

If you frequently create publications using tools like Publisher or Pages but seek the greater power and flexibility of Adobe InDesign, then this training is for you. We will look at how to create a new publication, how to edit and control the flow of text, how to precisely position page elements, and how to create a simple reusable template. Time permitting, we will also consider how to create reusable paragraph and character styles and how to draw simple vector graphics.

Would you like to move a paper survey to online or learn more about online survey methods? Qualtrics offers sophisticated survey collection and analysis while being easy to learn. In this session, you will learn how to:

  • Design a survey composed of various question types (e.g., multiple choice, matrices, hot spots).
  • Create logic in survey flow to bypass unnecessary questions for a segment of respondents.
  • Send personalized emails to targeted people you want to complete the survey.
  • Analyze the responses with tables, charts, and sub-reports.
  • Share the results with others.

Photoshop II (Intermediate)

This course moves beyond the basic features of Photoshop covered in the introductory course. We will look at how to make your images look their absolute best with the Levels, Curves, Color Balance, and Channel Mixer tools, how to retouch damaged or low-quality images using the History Brush and Clone Stamp tools, and finally how to synthesize new images using Layers, Opacity, Blending Modes, and Auto-Align. Time permitting, we will take a look at some of the more essential FIlters, including Unsharp Mask, Gaussian Blur, and Lens Correction.
