Reinstatement of Faculty and Staff Compensation

FAQ regarding the reinstatement of faculty and staff compensation announced in President Rose’s message of January 19, 2021.


When will I see the reinstated retirement plan contribution?
Retirement contributions will be reinstated effective February 1, 2021, for all eligible employees.

Will the retirement contributions return to the same percentages?
Yes, retirement contributions will return to the pre-September 1, 2020, levels. Information on retirement contributions is available here.

Will the College make up for the lost contributions?
No. While the College is reinstating its full retirement plan contributions on February 1, 2021, we will not be able to make up for the reduced contributions from the previous five months (September 2020 through January 2021).


Who is eligible for a salary increase?
Faculty and administrative staff who would have been eligible for a salary increase on July 1, 2020, will be eligible to receive the salary increase effective February 1, 2021. Employees hired on or after July 1, 2020, or employees who already received a salary adjustment through a promotion will not be eligible. This salary increase is meant to replace what was not received in July 2020.

How will salary increases be determined?
All eligible employees will receive a 3 percent increase, effective, February 1, 2021.

When will salary increases be reflected in the monthly pay?
Salary increases will be effective on February 1, 2021, and will be reflected in the monthly pay issued on February 26, 2021.

Will salary increases be retroactive?
No, salary increases will begin effective February 1, 2021.


Why are support staff getting one-time bonus payments?
Members of the support staff received salary increases in July, including increases related to the College’s commitment to move the minimum hiring rate to $14.00 per hour. One-time bonuses recognize the work accomplished during the fall 2020 semester amid very challenging circumstances.

Who is eligible to receive a one-time bonus payment?
Members of the support staff who were hired into benefits eligible positions on or before August 31, 2020, will be eligible to receive a one-time payment.

How will the one-time bonus payment be determined?
Bonuses will be based on the percentage increase the support staff member received in July 2020. They will generally range from $500 (for those who received at least a 3 percent raise in July) to $750 (for those who received less than 3 percent in July). Bonuses will be prorated based on FTE, with the bonus levels of $500 to $750 being for full-time employees. In addition, for those who received the smallest percentage increases in July, we will look at increasing their hourly rate to reach a 3 percent increase overall.

When will the one-time bonus payments be paid?
The one-time bonus payments will be in the regular biweekly pay on Friday, February 19, 2021.
