Bowdoin College Skating School

The Bowdoin College Skating School offers the Basic Skills Program designed by the United States Figure Skating Association (USFSA) for participants ages 3 to adult.

About

The entire Basic Skills program is designed to be the best beginners ice skating program. The program has up to nine separate sets of curriculum, including programs that focus on choreography, synchronized skating, and hockey. If you're looking to learn how to skate, the U.S. Figure Skating Basic Skills Program is your first step!

Changes & Cancellations

All schedule changes will be e-mailed to participants, including cancellations due to dangerous weather conditions. Classes are seldom canceled due to weather. We cannot guarantee that a make-up class will be offered.

Information

Clothing & Equipment
Please wear comfortable, non-bulky clothing. Layers are helpful to keep warm, but still allow for mobility. Figure Skaters should have single-blade skates only; no double runners or plastic skates. Hockey Skaters are required to wear hockey skates and helmets (a bike or ski helmet is OK.)

Insurance
It is a requirement of the Bowdoin College Skating School that all skaters are covered by health insurance. No one is allowed to participate without insurance.

Location
Classes take place at the Sidney J. Watson Ice Arena on the Bowdoin College campus. The address to the arena is 27 Watson Drive in Brunswick, ME.

Refunds
No refunds will be given, except in the case of a documented medical condition, in which case the refund will be pro-rated accordingly.

The Skating Club of Brunswick Ice Show

At the end of the skating season, the Skating Club of Brunswick produces an ice show held at Watson Ice Arena. Some skaters in the Bowdoin College Skating School will be invited to participate in the show. Information on costume cost and rehearsal times will be provided by the coaches later in the Fall session.
