Many of the illustrations in this manuscript have been attributed to the Masters of Adolph of Cleves on the basis of precise delineation of figures achieved by outlining details with dark lines. However, the miniature of Saint Michael was created by a different illuminator, who brought in a more painter-like technique, paying attention to stroke, color, and texture, rather than sharp outlines.
