Fellowships and Research

The chemistry department's summer research program gives students a chance to become immersed in research projects where they can synthesize and apply elements of their classroom learning.

Internal Grants and Fellowships

The chemistry department and the College offer a multitude of funded summer research fellowships for students interested in conducting research on campus over the summer. Students engage in a variety of independent research and are mentored by faculty during their research.

Dana Walker Mayo Research Fund

When legendary Charles Weston Pickard Professor of Chemistry Emeritus Dana Mayo passed away in November 2016, former students reached out to his wife of more than fifty years, O. Jeanne d’Arc Mayo, seeking a fitting way to honor the defining role "Doc Mayo" played in their lives. By the first anniversary of his passing, with generous gifts from family, former students, colleagues, and friends, the Dana Walker Mayo Fund has been established and endowed.

The fund supports a senior prize and provides funds for undergraduate student research through fellowships, supplies, a speaker, and travel. The fund recognizes Professor Mayo’s commitment to promote early access to undergraduate research in chemistry and related fields, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary research.
