Areas Impacted by Natural Disasters
Accommodations for high school students from areas impacted by natural disasters
We understand that in the aftermath of natural disasters like Hurricanes Florence and Michael, the wildfires in California, and Super Typhoon Mangkhut, the details of college application materials and deadlines may cause added stress. We hope to make the process easier for you by offering the following accommodations to provide some relief in the application process.
- Application deadline extensions, if needed.
- Submission of recommendation letters will be waived for those impacted by natural disasters.
- Optional: Students may submit a scanned copy of a graded paper if recommendation letters will not be part of the application.
If there are other ways in which we may help you complete an application to Bowdoin College, please email email@example.com or call 207-725-3100.
We understand that the hurricanes have impacted school calendars, displaced students, and affected the functioning of schools. Students impacted by Hurricanes Florence and Michael will not be required to submit letters of recommendation. If submitted, letters of recommendation will still be included in our review. You will not be disadvantaged in the admissions process if you cannot submit a letter of recommendation.
You may also submit a scanned copy of a graded paper if you’d like. You may include this as “additional information” in your application or send it directly to firstname.lastname@example.org as an attached file. Submission of a graded paper is optional.
Please contact the admissions office if you are having trouble completing other parts of your application.
