Student Affairs. Sexuality, Women, and Gender Center
The Sexuality, Women, and Gender Center (SWAG), located at 24 College Street, provides support, resources, safe space, and education for Bowdoin College students of all sexualities and gender identities. The center’s mission is to cultivate a campus environment in which women and queer people feel safe, valued, and supported through academic, co-curricular, and personal development. It builds awareness surrounding issues of gender and sexuality existing on campus and in the world. The center sponsors speakers, workshops, films, discussions, and other programs and events that draw together students, faculty, staff, and community members. The co-directors of SWAG serve as confidential resources for students around gender violence and advise student organizations, including, but not limited to BWA (Bowdoin's Women's Association), the student body, FFLY (Fostering Female Leadership in Youth), BWIB (Bowdoin Women in Business), BQSA (Bowdoin Queer Straight Alliance), and A*CE (Asexual and Aromatic Community for Education). Annual offerings include “HerStory” programming in March, Wellness Wednesdays, Women of Color Retreats, Winning Together: Allies in Athletics, OUTPeers, OUTAllies, Quinner, a weekly Thursday evening dinner for LGBTIQA students, and more. 24 College Street is open for students to meet, hang out, study, bake, peruse the library, and make new friends.
