Bowdoin College’s Department of Classics invites applications for a one-year replacement position in classics at the Assistant Professor or Instructor level, for the 2014-2015 academic year. Ph.D. preferred, but A.B.D. considered. A specialization in Greek or Latin language and literature, evidence of strong teaching experience, and ability and enthusiasm to teach all levels of Greek and Latin language are essential. Teaching responsibilities include four courses annually, at least one of which will be a course on translation at the introductory level (e.g., classical mythology or Greek or Roman civilization) or on a more advanced level in a subject relating to the successful applicant’s area of expertise; the remainder will be in Greek and/or Latin language, beginning through advanced levels. We are especially interested in applicants whose areas of interest can extend our current range of offerings, such as ancient religion, Hellenistic culture, or late antiquity, but all broadly trained classicists are encouraged to apply.
Please visit https:/careers.bowdoin.edu to submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae, and the names and contact information for three references who have agreed to provide letters of recommendation.
Review of applications will begin on December 1, 2013, and preliminary interviews will be conducted at the APA meetings in Chicago.
