Once you have added the layers you want or joined the tables needed you may want to select certain features.
Right click on the layer that you want and open attribute table.
Click options in the lower center then select by attributes.
From here you can select using equations for certain values.
Double click the field you want to select from and it should show up in the bottom equation section. When you have a field selected at the top click get unique values. This will show you all the values in the table. Once you have the field you want to select from in the equation section add a section expression such as =, <, >, or >=.
Once you have done this type in the value that you want to choose or double click it from the unique values field. Click apply then look at the attributes table to see if your selection equation worked.
