Arrangements
           The first thing I do when presented with a photograph is try to ascertain what it describes.  Photography’s analogous relationship to our visual system seems to encourage this approach to looking at images.

           In order to understand better the ways a picture holds my attention above and beyond (or perhaps underlying) its ability to mimic a retinal experience, I find myself trying to make images that deflect the question of "what" they describe by emphasizing the arrangement or positioning of elements in the frame or a series of frames.
