Tracing Recurrent Activity in Cognitive Elements
a model of temporal dynamics in a cell assembly

The second half of the TRACE paper can be taken as a lesson of the role of computer science within cognitive science. The model must be able to account for a wide range of data from psychology and from neuroscience. The experiments are carefully designed to show that the model can indeed account for these data and can do so robustly. Further, the model can be used in ways which go beyond the given data, as in section 4.4. As you are reading take a critical approach to this work. What are the shortcomings of the model? What experiments weren't run that should have been? Is this a reasonable approach?
