Leal's Northwestern-Argentina Lizard
   Noasaurus leali
(Bonaparte & J. E. Powell, 1980)

Noasaurus leali, although it bears the killing inner toe claw of a dromaeosaur like Velociraptor , is not at all related to the Asian predator.  N. leali is actualy an abelisaur, a relative of the bizzare Carnotaurus .  These primitive dinosaurs, living on the island continent of South America, have been in isolation since the Jurassic and since that time, have radiated into many forms parralleling the dinosaurs in Asia and North America.  While Asia is home to the tyrannosaurs, velociraptors, and hadrosaurs, South America supports giganotosaurs, noasaurs, and titanosaurs.
