Albertan Running Lizard
Dromaeosaurus albertensis
(Matthew & Brown, 1922)
Dromaeosaurus albertensis
is one of the deinonychosaurs, swift hunters that use raised claws on their
inner toes to rip at their prey. True to its clade, D. albertensis
is a ferocious small-predator of late Cretacious North America, but it
has altered its hunting stratagy from its kin's. While D. albertensis
does sport the dangerous sickle claws of its reletives like
Velociraptor
, these claws are reletively small. D.
albertensis uses its teeth as its primary weapons, biting and grappling
with its prey like a cat.
