On Monday, November 15th, YALP teamed with the Finance Society to host Jeff Goldenberg for dinner and a lively discussion in the Cram Alumni House. Jeff graduated Bowdoin in 1977, and after graduating from Columbia Business School he joined Goldman Sachs full time, where he has spent the rest of his illustrious career. After Jeff discussed how his liberal arts experience and his peers at Bowdoin influenced his life and career path, he opened the floor to an interactive discussion. Many students in attendance asked advice on how to leverage their time at Bowdoin to get a job. He offered tips on how to stand out in an interview, "keep the ball in your court" during the job application process and how to stand out in an entry level position.
Jeff's most important advice to students was to pursue a career in something that they are passionate about. He believes that if you are passionate about your work, it will continue to be interesting and exciting, two factors he considers paramount to success. All the students in attendance were highly appreciate he could take the time from his busy schedule to meet, and we think this was a highly successful talk to kick of the YALP speaker series!
