I began my involvement with development as a student caller during my first year. I loved speaking with alumni in order to learn more about their experiences, as well as sharing with them all of the great things that were happening on campus. Joining YALP seemed like a great way to take this message and share it with my own classmates and help them understand the importance of giving back.
Well, it's hard to pick just one, but I have to say that the YALP retreat was a huge highlight. It was great to get off campus for a weekend with the rest of the YALPers and spend some time really getting to know one another. The retreat really brought us all closer together and helped forge a common bond. If I had to pick a second highlight, it would be the "100 Days to Graduation" event that YALP sponsors. Again, it was a really fun opportunity for everyone to come together as a class and think about our own shared experiences - as well as create new ones.
Since graduating, I have been involved with Bowdoin as a Class Agent. Every year I contact between 10-20 of my classmates and encourage them to participate in the Alumni Fund. I also served as one of the co-chairs for our 5th reunion and have been actively involved in working with the development office on fundraising strategies for the class. My experiences at Bowdoin helped to shape the person that I am today and I want to stay involved with Bowdoin through my volunteer work. I enjoy staying involved and engaged as an alum, and I hope to continue to do so for many years.
