During the school year, Upward Bound staff members visit the high schools served by UB on a regular basis, usually once a month. School visits are also a time to catch up on other aspects of the student's life, including extracurricular activities, job, family life, etc. Counselors provide the following during school visits:
Throughout the year, the counselors provide information on the college process, including choosing colleges, the application process, financial aid and scholarship information, and admission testing requirements. By processing college applications for Upward Bound students, the application fee is waived; Upward Bound also provides fee waivers for admissions tests like the SAT's.
Senior students at Upward Bound are encouraged to visit the campuses of the colleges they're interested in attending. The program helps students with interviewing skills and can assist with visiting arrangements.
