Growing up outside of Detroit, attending a large high school (grad. class of 626), and then Albion College and the University of Michigan, I always felt my real "claim to fame" was that I had been born in Maine. Thanks to happy summers with grandparents in Fryeburg, I moved to Maine immediately after college to teach English at Brunswick High School. This is why I know/love Brunswick, Upward Bound, and Bowdoin (actually had a summer job in the old Moulton Union Bookstore).

After a two-year jaunt out of the country to teach in Australia, I returned home to join the English Dept. at Morse H.S. That job dramatically changed my life, as I married the brother of a colleague, and moved Downeast to live on an eight-generation salt-water farm . . . where I learned to milk cows (60 of them).

The cows are long gone, but life on the farm is not at all "laid back." We were honored recently as the Maine State Tree Farm of the Year. I daily enjoy the incredible natural beauty of this place, and "pinch myself" at the good fortune of having our children and grandchildren living on the farm.

Several years ago, Bridget asked me to come on board, counseling a few students in some of the Washington County schools we serve. In the fall 2003, I had the good fortune of becoming a part-time counselor serving all the schools in WC. So, here I am (though you don't see me during the summer session)--the academic counselor for a wonderful group of Washington County UBers.
