Openings - 38th Annual Spring Dance Show

The Department of Theater and Dance presents Openings, the 38th Annual Spring Dance Performance, in Pickard Theater on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 23rd, 24th and 25th, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. The performance is free and open to the public. Tickets are available at the Smith Union Information Desk, at 207-725-3375 or at the door.

This year's performance is a single hour-long dance titled "Openings" performed by students in repertory classes under the direction of Theater and Dance Department faculty, Gwyneth Jones and Paul Sarvis. "Openings" is an exploration and disruption of the traditional proscenium theater space - a meditation on the visual frame - and an invitation for audience to experience both the space and the dance in new ways. The dance is performed to music ranging from small jazz ensemble to new string quartet--from Motown to the Beatles--and features a stage set by nationally recognized designer, Victor Becker.

Openings is produced with assistance from the Alice Cooper Morse Fund for the Performing Arts.

A reception will be held in Drake Lobby on April 25th after the performance.
