Theater and Dance at Bowdoin College is founded on two key ideas: 1) the purpose of the performance is to challenge our perceptions and understanding of culture; and 2) excellence in the performing arts requires us to wrestle with both theory and practice. We therefore engage students who want not only to create new and innovative works for stage and screen, but also to use theater, dance, and media to explore and transform the world around them. Working across genres, Bowdoin's Department of Theater and Dance empowers and challenges students within an environment that fosters rigorous thinking, imaginative exploration, and the development of performing artists and thinkers who will shape performance in the 21st century.
