Student Employees:Brooks and Mary

Sustainable Bowdoin hires student employees each year to assist with campus programs such as the annual trash audit, food waste audits, energy competitions, and recycling competitions.  Students also write and post the monthly sustainability flyer known as "The Installment"; provide research on topics such as green building design, energy conservation and waste reduction; maintain data collection on recycling; and develop outreach materials for promoting sustainable behaviors on campus.

Sustainable Bowdoin also hires student recyclers who make college apartment recycling possible through their work with Facilities Management.

Eco-Reps

Bowdoin's Eco-Reps promote sustainable living stratigies in each of the first year dorms.  Visit the Eco-Reps website for more info.

Sustainable Bowdoin (Student Organization)

Sustainable Bowdoin is also the name of a student organization that meets once a month to discuss ideas and initiatives that help make Bowdoin College a more sustainable community. This large group of students often breaks out into subcommittees to work on specific projects.  Examples of successful projects that started with brainstorming at Sustainable Bowdoin meetings include: Bowdoin's composting program, the Bowdoin Organic Garden, recycling at the campus apartments, developing Bowdoin's Environmental Mission Statement and using silverware in place of plastic utencils at the campus Cafe.  To find out when meetings are, subscribe to the Sustainable Bowdoin listserve by emailing cpayson@bowdoin.edu.  The listserve is used to publicize our monthly meetings as well as other sustainability focused movies and lectures on campus.
