Bowdoin Climate Fair
Time: 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
Location: Morrell Lounge, David Saul Smith Union
The Climate Fair will showcase student, faculty and staff work around the issue of sustainability as well as additional community organizations who will provide information and resources on climate change.
Locavore Dinner
Time: 5:00 p.m–7:30 p.m
Location: Thorne Dining Hall
Dining Service will host a "Locavore" dinner featuring local foods. Faculty and staff are invited to attend as well. Each table will be hosted by a student leader who will help to lead small group discussions on sustainability on campus and the College’s Climate Action Plan. Bowdoin community members will have the opportunity to vote for the "People's choice award" for the Climate Matters contest proposals.
Film Screening: The 11th Hour
Time: 7:30 p.m.
Location: Helmreich House
Come enjoy organic treats while viewing the critically acclaimed film The 11th Hour. Narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio, The 11th Hour explores the perilous current state of our planet and suggests paths we might take to change our fate. The film includes contributions from leading politicians, scientists and environmentalists involved in the crusade to halt climate change.

Majora Carter is an environmental advocate born, raised, and continuing to live in the South Bronx. Her work takes her around the world in pursuit of resources and ideas to improve the quality of life in environmentally challenged communities. She founded Sustainable South Bronx in 2001 to achieve environmental justice through economically sustainable projects informed by community needs. Ms. Carter simultaneously addresses public health, poverty alleviation, and climate change as one of the nation's pioneers in successful green-collar job training and placement systems. As president of the Majora Carter Group, her work now includes advising cities, foundations, universities, businesses, and communities around the world on unlocking their green-collar economic potential to benefit everyone. She has garnered numerous awards and accolades, including a MacArthur "Genius" Fellowship, and was named one of Essence magazine's 25 Most Influential African-Americans in 2007.
After her talk, President Mills will discuss Bowdoin College’s new Environmental Mission Statement and announce the Climate Matters contest winners. The top five selections will be on display at the reception.
Reception with Majora Carter
The Bowdoin community is invited to a reception with Majora Carter that will take place after President Mills’s address. The reception will showcase local Maine foods and include displays by the winners of the Climate Matters contest. Students interested in “Green Jobs and the Green Economy” will have the opportunity to further discuss these topics with Ms. Carter.
