Each Fall Bowdoin runs an energy conservation competition among the 12 residence halls and 8 college houses. Winners over the past ten years include MacMillan House ('02 & '03), Coleman Hall ('04), Winthrop Hall ('05 & '06), Baxter House ('07, '08 & '11) Reed House ('09) and Helmriech House ('10). Starting in 2011 Bowdoin started the first competition among academic and administrative buildings known as the Polar Bear Energy Challenge.  The 2nd Annual Polar Bear Energy Challenge is slated for February 13 - March 8, 2012 and will be the first competition to include a combination of student residences, and both academic and administrative buildings.
