Major(s)/Minor: ES & EOS
Hometown: Milton, MA
Leadership on campus: Bowdoin Organic Garden, Outing Club
Environmental Mission: We could (and should) all live more sustainably!
How have you been involved in sustainability efforts on campus?
I’ve been a part of Bowdoin Climate Action, Green Bowdoin Alliance, and Food Co-op in the past and maybe future. Right now, I’m mostly involved with the Bowdoin Organic Garden and its student club.
What inspired you to connect with sustainability on campus?
Although I’ve been interested in sustainability and the environment since before college, I guess last year going to a 350.org event in Portland, with a talk by Bill McKibben, really inspired a lot of students to think and become more active about sustainability in various ways. And this past summer I worked at the Bowdoin Organic Garden and became more involved that way.
Did you study abroad? Were environmental topics a part of your program?
I hope to study abroad in Svalbard (a Norwegian island in the Arctic) this spring, and take an environmental management class there.
What is your favorite natural spot on campus/in Brunswick?
Don’t have one yet! Must mean I need to do more exploring.
How many things can you check off the “Sustainable Things to Do at Bowdoin”(see attached list) or do you have one you would particularly recommend?
I can’t believe I haven’t thought of bringing my own receptacle to a party and using it instead of a Solo cup before.
