The Bowdoin Campaign

Academic Affairs

The Bowdoin Campaign has protected an extraordinary educational model for future generations of students. The addition of eight new endowed faculty positions lowered Bowdoin’s student-to-faculty ratio from 10:1 to 9:1, ensuring and enhancing the kind of intimate discussions and student-faculty relationships that characterize the College’s classwork and scholarship. These new positions have helped broaden the course offerings in emerging academic areas, have diversified the expertise and interests of the faculty, and have opened up new academic possibilities for students.

The Campaign’s support of faculty development will allow Bowdoin to attract and retain superb teachers and scholars by allowing the College to provide more frequent sabbaticals, competitive grants for extended research leaves, and funding for professional conferences. It has also enabled upgrades and expansions of facilities and programs carefully targeted to enhance the academic experience, including an extensive renovation of the College’s Museum of Art, the conversion of Curtis Pool into the new Studzinski Recital Hall, the construction of a new academic building in Kanbar Hall, and renovations and enhancements to existing classrooms and other academic spaces.
