Education

I earned a BA in Geography from Dartmouth College in 1987 and studied away in Kenya my junior year. I have an MA in (Economic) Geography from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where I completed a thesis on the location and geographic diffusion of small business incubators in the U.S.

Background

I grew up on a small, non-working farm in Pennsylvania. I worked in Admissions at Dartmouth for two years post graduation and worked in the Dean’s Office at Carnegie Mellon University for two years and directed the Residential Life Program there for three years. I started at Bowdoin in July 1996 as the Dean of First-Year Students. I am an obsessive-compulsive Red Sox fan, outdoor enthusiast, vegetable gardener, antique collector, and the father of two and spouse of one!
