Institutional Research Awards are open to students from across campus (versus the Departmental Fellowships and Research Awards that are usually open to students from a particular discipline). The Committee on Student Fellowships and Research reviews all applications for the Institutional Research Awards and makes the award decisions; the Office of Student Fellowships and Research is responsible for their administration.
These institutional research opportunities are supported by endowed funds established by generous alumni over the years.
The phrase "research award" implies that, while the student will not receive a stipend, he or she will be reimbursed for research related expenses such as travel and supplies. The nature of your project will dictate whether a fellowship or research award will better suit your needs.

Application Process. Scholarly mentoring is crucial to the effectiveness of a research award; therefore, it's important that interested students talk with faculty early in the process and identify a faculty member who will be available and willing to mentor the student throughout the award period. Your application must include a letter of support from your faculty mentor. To view the application, click here: Student Research Award Application.
Selection Criteria. Awards are made on the basis of the candidate's narrative description of the project, the candidate's academic record, the candidate's qualifications to undertake the project, and the faculty/staff member's letter of support. The financial need of a candidate does not enter into the awarding of fellowships. (Back to Top)
