Institutional Fellowships

Institutional Fellowships are open to students from across campus (versus the Departmental Fellowships that are usually open to students from a particular discipline). The Committee on Student Fellowships and Research reviews all applications for the Institutional Fellowships and makes the award decisions; the Office of Student Fellowships and Research is responsible for their administration.

These institutional research opportunities are supported by endowed funds established by generous alumni over the years. While the exact number of fellowships supported by each fund changes slightly each year, in general the College annually awards over 30 Institutional Fellowships.

At Bowdoin, the term "fellowship" implies that the student will receive a stipend while conducting his or her research. The nature of your project will dictate whether a fellowship or research award will better suit your needs.

Application Process. Your application must include a letter of support from your faculty mentor. To view the application, click here: Student Research Fellowship Application.

Complete application forms must be submitted by noon on the posted deadline (March 2, 2010) to the Office of Student Fellowships and Research. Applicants will be notified of their application status March 12, 2010. Deadline to accept or decline the offered fellowship is April 2, 2010. (Back to Top)
