Listed below are the institutional fellowships Bowdoin students can apply for during the spring semester. Each fellowship offers a $3,200 stipend for eight weeks of research, up to $500 for research related expenses, and campus housing provided by the College. These institutional fellowships are usually carried out during the summer, but in rare cases, during the following academic year. While the exact number of fellowships supported by a fund shifts annually, in general the College awards over 30 Institutional Fellowships through the spring process and an additional four institutional fellowships through the fall application process. The Committee on Student Fellowships and Research reviews all Institutional Fellowships applications and makes the award decisions; the Office of Student Fellowships and Research is responsible for their administration.
The Institutional Fellowships with fall application deadlines and Departmental Fellowships and offer different, but significant award packages; mini grants for research offer smaller awards. Students are encouraged to familiarize themselves with all of these opportunities to determine which funding source best suits their project and research needs.
