Kufe Family Research Fellowship

Established in 2016 with a gift from Donald W. Kufe '66 and his wife Hillary R. Mankin-Kufe, this fund supports undergraduate research in the natural sciences with preference for those who major in Biology or Chemistry.

First-years, sophomores, and juniors may apply. Current seniors are ineligible.

Students opt to carry out 8, 9, or 10 weeks of research. Students should discuss with their faculty mentors what would be the appropriate duration of their fellowship and consider their own research goals and availability as well as their faculty mentors’ availability when making this decision.  Selected fellows are expected to commit full-time effort to their research project and faculty mentors must approve the duration of the fellowship period.

The Kufe Family Fellowship offers $400 a week, therefore an 8-week fellowship carries an award of $3,200, a 9-week fellowship carries an award of $3,600, and a 10-week fellowship carries an award of $4,000.

If requested and approved during the application process, fellows may also be reimbursed for up to $500 for justified research related expenses (e.g., laboratory/art supplies, analytical costs, and travel beyond the local area to conduct field work or to visit an archive).

Should a faculty mentor feel that a fellow is not making sufficient progress toward the research goals set forth in the fellow's proposal, the College reserves the right to discontinue funding.
