Frequently Asked Questions

Save time! Before calling Security for a question, consult the following list! If you have a question, chances are someone has already asked it!

Q. What do I do in an emergency?

A. Call Security from the nearest phone at extension 3500, or use one of the many blue-light emergency phones.

Q. What do you consider an emergency?

A. You should call the emergency line at ext. 3500 if: there is any danger to life or property, you feel threatened or unsafe in any way, you or someone else is very sick or injured, you see someone who doesn't belong or is acting suspicious, there has been a serious chemical or toxic spill, or any condition which requires immediate attention.

Q. My roommate had too much to drink and I'm worried.

A. If he/she is sleeping and will not wake up, or breaths less than 12 times per minute, is very sweaty, or is highly confused, the situation could be life-threatening! Call Security at ext. 3500 immediately. If in doubt please call anyway; it is better to be safe than sorry.

Q. If I have to go to the Hospital, will it cost me anything?

A. All students carry medical insurance through Bowdoin. For further information contact Human Resources at ext. 3837.

Q. The Safe Ride Van is not running. Will Security give me a ride?

A. Yes. When the Safe Ride Van is not running, Security will give "safe rides" to students to their residences or from their residence to the campus. For "convenience ride" Student Activities operates a shuttle on Friday and Saturday.

Q. How do I call the Safe Ride Van?

A. Call security at ext. 3314.

Q. Can I park ....?

A. You must park in the same color lot as your sticker. See the parking page for complete parking information. NEVER park in a fire lane, or on North or South Campus Circles (near Multon Union and the Heating Plant) - you will be towed! The "road" to Howard and Stowe halls is a fire lane, not a road, do not park or drive there. The Town of Brunswick enforces a winter parking ban from 12:00AM - 7:00AM on all public streets. The ordinance is in effect from November 15 to April 15.

Q. I think my car was towed! What do I do?

A. If your car was on College property call Security at ext. 3314 to confirm your vehicle was towed. If your car was on a town street, you must call Brunswick Police at 725-5521.

Q. I need to drop off a paper for my professor, but the building is closed.

A. Chances are someone else in your class does too. You can save Security multiple trips by putting your paper in a large envelope and bringing it to the Communications Center at Rhodes Hall. This way your classmates' papers can be added to the envelope and an officer will only need to make one trip. Please call Security at 3314.

Q. The computer lab assistant for Adams xxx is missing. Can I get in?

A. Security will NOT open a computer lab unless the lab assistant is present.

Q. My key for _____ is lost/not working. What do I do?

A. Security can let you into your residence after hours, if your key is lost/not working. You should notify the Lockshop at ext. 3445 as soon as possible during business hours. Before calling Security for a lockout contact your Proctor/RA and they may be able to assist you.

Q. I keep getting prank phone calls!

A. There are a few things that can be done to help. Call Security at 3314 and we can assist you.
