Extended Drop

  • Add/Drop II: students may drop courses without permission during the first two weeks of the semester.
  • Extended Drop, New Students: during your first semester at Bowdoin, you may drop in the third through the sixth weeks with the permission of your student dean and academic advisor.
  • Extended Drop, Returning Students: beginning in your second semester, you may drop a total of two courses in your Bowdoin career during weeks three through six of a semester with the permission of your academic advisor.
  • If you are considering using an Extended Drop, meet with your academic advisor and keep the following in mind:
    • Using an extended drop is a serious decision that can impact the completion of your degree and should only be made in extenuating circumstances.
    • Courses dropped through Extended Drop will not appear on your transcript.
    • If you use an extended drop in your first semester, you are still eligible to use two additional career extended drops.
    • If you have already used your two career extended drops, you will need to petition the Recording Committee to drop other courses after the end of Add/Drop II.
    • At no time may you drop below three courses during any semester without permission from the Recording Committee.
    • Courses dropped by the Recording Committee will appear on your transcript with a grade of W (for withdrawn).
    • If you want to add a course after the Add/Drop II dea 
  • Please note, Extended Drop forms will only be accepted if it is submitted by your academic advisor.
  • For Fall 2018, Extended Drop forms will be accepted from Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at 5:01 pm through Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at 5:00 pm.
