Instructor Registration Permission/Overrides

Instructors may submit overrides to allow students to register for their courses. Overrides are tied to the section CRN and term; they do not apply to other sections of the same course, and they do not apply to future semesters. Instructors enter overrides in the overrides portlet in Polaris.

  • Instructor Permission - REQUIRED for a student to add any course during the add/drop period. Instructor permission no longer overrides any other course rule; use the specific overrides instead. During course registration Rounds 1, 2, and 3, this override only applies to a limited number of courses. Please do not check this override during Rounds 1, 2, and 3 unless your course specifically requires Instructor Permission.
  • PCC Override (Prereq, Co-req, Class Exclude) - allows a student to add a course 1) if s/he does not have the prerequisite (or placement, where it applies) in his/her academic history, or if s/he earned the prerequisite with coursework s/he did off campus; 2) without requiring him/her to also add the course co-requisite; and 3) even if the student has an excluded course in his/her academic history. Not needed for any lab section.
  • Class Size Override - allows a student to add a class over the class registration limit. Only available during the add/drop period.
  • MMC Override (Major, Minor, Class Standing) - allows a student to add a class even if s/he does not meet 1) the major/minor restriction, or 2) the class standing restriction. Not needed for any lab section. Only available during the add/drop period.
