Off Campus Credit Transcript Appearance

How will courses taken off campus appear on my Bowdoin transcript?

Many students wonder how the coursework that they took abroad or during the summer will appear on the Bowdoin transcript. Hopefully, the following information and examples will answer any questions you may have.

Courses taught on the Bowdoin College campus are listed on the transcript in this manner:

Fall 2000

4.00

GER 101 ELEMENTARY GERMAN I B 1.00
HIST 283 PREMODERN JAPAN C 1.00
ECON 301

ECONOMICS OF THE FAMILY

A 1.00
BIO 258 ORNITHOLOGY A 1.00

Courses taken through the Colby-Bates-Bowdoin programs at Cape Town, Quito, or London are listed in a similar manner on the Bowdoin transcript. This is done because courses taken through the CBB program are considered to be Bowdoin courses, even if they are taken far from the Bowdoin campus itself. Here is how they look:

Fall 2000 Colby-Bates-Bowdoin Program at:
QUITO EQUADOR

4.00

QUI 001 MEDIO AMBIENTE EN EL ECUADOR B 1.00
QUI 003 ECUADOR UNA SOCIEDAD PLURINACIONAL A 1.00
QUI 291

INDEPENDENT STUDY

A 1.00
QUI 303 ESPANOL GENERAL RUMINAHUI C 1.00

In the case of courses taken through an approved Off-Campus Study program, such as SIT-Australia, through 12-College Exchange, or during the summer, the name of the institution and the total number of credits accepted for transfer are listed. It looks like this:

Fall 2000
Study Away Program at: Oxford University 4.00

or

Summer 2000
Transferred credit from: Indiana University 0.75

If you have any questions regarding transfer of credit generally or other issues relating to the Bowdoin transcript, please contact Julie Bedard, Associate Registrar.
