What was your Spanish language-based experience upon graduation from Bowdoin?
I have been teaching Spanish at the Pike School since graduation. Pike is an independent, pre-K through 9th school in Andover, MA. I am 6th grade advisor and have taught 6th-9th grade in my time here. I have also been very involved with the work that is being done around diversity.
What was your motivation for searching out a Spanish language-based
experience upon graduation from Bowdoin?
I had a strong interest both in being able to use my language skills and working with children, so going into teaching seemed like a great fit.
What previous experiences prepared you for your experience?
While at Bowdoin, I was part of the Bears and Cubs program for two years and did some non-formal Spanish instruction at one of the local elementary schools. I also worked at the Bowdoin Summer Day Camp.
What methods, contacts, etc. did you use to arrange your experience?
I saw an ad in the Boston Globe.

Are you currently using your Spanish language skills?
Yes
Did your experience influence your current and/or future career choice and job skills? If so, how?
I have always wanted to be able to use my language skills in my professional life. I am currently looking into changing careers and going back to school to get my masters in international relations. Ideally, I would like to work in an area where I am working with/for vulnerable populations, such as children or refugees, from Spanish-speaking countries.
Are you willing to be contacted by students who are interested to learn more about your experience?
Yes
