What was your Asian cultural experience upon graduation from Bowdoin?
I have been moving back and forth from Taiwan and the US ever since I was born. Since September 2003, I have been living in Taipei, Taiwan to gain more working experience in the Asia region.

What was your motivation for searching out an Asian cultural experience upon graduation from Bowdoin?
Being Taiwanese myself, it only made sense for me to come back and experience Taipei as an employee of the society instead of a student. I think working abroad is imperative in your career history and overall experience.

What previous experiences prepared you for your experience?
I have been living in Taiwan on and off for many years, this trip back was yet another ‘return’ for me. But previously I was here in Taiwan as only a junior high/high school student. Ten years later, this city has grown and developed so much that it feels like I am learning this city all over again.

What methods, contacts, etc. did you use to arrange your experience?
The contacts made firstly was with my aunt, whom arranged for an airport pick up and generously allowed me to stay with her until I found my own apartment. Secondly, I established contact with an organizer from ORIENTED, a great organization of which I am currently an organizer of as well for the Taipei region. I attended their event once I arrived in Taipei and have nothing but benefited from them. ORIENTED has helped me abundantly in all aspects of my life here in Taipei – professionally, socially and culturally.

Country in which you are currently residing:
Taipei, Taiwan

Organization for which you are working:
Pamir Law Group

Are you currently using your Asian language skills?
Yes – Mandarin and Taiwanese

Did your experience influence your current and/or future career choice and job skills? If so, how?
Within 8 months I had switched three jobs in Taipei - my third job being Pamir Law Group. After experiencing other jobs and positions, I now know what I don’t plan on pursuing as a career and where I do possibly fit in career-wise. I have stayed with Pamir for a year already and plan on staying with them for a while. Not only do I thoroughly enjoy my working experience here at this firm, but I also plan on staying in the legal services field as my future career choice.

Are you willing to be contacted by students who are interested to learn more about your experience?
Most definitely, contact me anytime.
