To Members of the Bowdoin Community,

I write with sadness to inform you of the recent death of Elizabeth D. Wilson H'89, a longtime supporter and generous friend of the College. Mrs. Wilson died March 25 at her Brunswick home at the age of 98.

A wife, mother and grandmother of Bowdoin graduates, Mrs. Wilson was landlady and special friend to hundreds of Bowdoin students who boarded at her Federal Street home over the years beginning in 1947.

A graduate of Smith College and the Yale University School of Nursing, she worked as a nurse at various places throughout the state, including for six years at Bowdoin's infirmary. She then began a 25-year career at the Central Maine Medical Center School of Nursing.

After her "early retirement" in 1984 at the age of 79, she frequently could be found on the Bowdoin campus, auditing many classes and attending almost every Bowdoin-sponsored lecture and performance.

Bowdoin awarded Mrs. Wilson an honorary master of arts degree in 1989.

I know each of you joins me in offering condolences to the Wilson family.
