Polaris

Faculty

Polaris will be implemented in phases (see Timeline for details), with the core functions available by the fall of 2013. After the core implementation, Polaris will continue to grow to benefit Bowdoin students, faculty, and staff. Benefits to faculty are detailed below.

Help with Advising

  • Polaris will enable all faculty and students to log in simultaneously, anytime, anywhere (no more being denied access to student information because the system has reached its quota of users)
  • Monitor your advisees' progress toward completing their division and distribution requirements (and, in the future, toward meeting their major and minor requirements)
  • During registration, proposed courses may be checked for time and prerequisite conflicts so your time with each student will be focused on advising not logistics
  • You will be able to access information about your advisees (e.g., placement recommendation, academic results) from a single web site

Convenience and Access

  • You will be able to access your first-year advisee information online and not need to walk over to Moulton Union to pick up packets
  • Submit your course requests ("tan sheets") online, especially useful for faculty who are on sabbatical
  • Submit your course grades directly into Polaris (no more faxing or hand delivering grades)
  • Submit classroom request forms online
