Telemark Instructors
Several BOC students and Bowdoin faculty who earn PSIA certification during the course of the program help teach the tele classes. Below are bios of our professional instructional staff for the '07-'08 ski season.
Matt O'Donnell
- Associate Editor, Bowdoin magazine; directs the tele program for the BOC; PSIA Level III-certified in Alpine and in Nordic Downhill; WFR (wilderness first responder); AIARE (The American Institute For Avalanche Research And Education) Level I Avalanche; season '07-'08 is his 22nd teaching skiing. Matt is founder of a literary nonprofit called From the Fishouse. He lives in Pittston, Maine, with his amazing artist wife, Alesia, and their five-year-old daughter, Fay.
Michael Woodruff '87
- Director of the Bowdoin Outing Club; former competitive white water paddler, ACA (American Canoe Association) certified Whitewater Instructor Trainer; WEMT (wilderness emergency medical technician); PSIA Level I, Nordic Downhill; AIARE Level I Avalanche. Mike, also a burgeoning organic farmer, lives on a farm in Brunswick, Maine, with his fantastic (and very patient) wife, Lucretia (former Co-Director of the BOC), and their sons Finnegan and Seamus, and daughter Maeve.
Megan Hayes '03
- Recent Assistant Director of Bowdoin Outing Club; PSIA Level I Nordic Downhill; AIARE Level I Avalanche; WFR; Registered Maine Sea Kayaking Guide; ACA Certified Sea Kayak Instructor.
Todd Richards
- Was a long-time Sugarloaf instructor and a PSIA Tele Examiner Training Squad member; PSIA Level III, Nordic Downhill; PSIA Level II, Alpine; has been teaching skiing for 20 years. Lives in Bristol, Maine, where he runs his family's art gallery, with his artist wife, Sarah, and their six-year-old son, Sammy. Fanatical cyclist and not a bad paddler. Grills a mean cheeseburger.
