Climbing Advanced Leaders Seminar

Story posted September 22, 2010

Rock Climbing Advanced Leader Seminar started this semester in an effort to bring outdoor rock climbing back to the BOC. The group of BOC leaders, Ethan Nonomura ’12, Danica Loucks ’13, Adam Berliner ’13, Aviva Fiske ’12, Lulu Oakes ’13, Richard Joyce ’13, Leah Wang ’12, Sheela Turbek ’13, Bess Carter ’13 and of course Miguel Reyes Zaragoza ’12 our AMGA certified Single Pitch Instructor are trying to bring about the rebirth of BOC rock climbing. Heading out to local crags with the BOC Assistant Director Devin Farkas, this crew of leaders is working on anchor building and improving their climbing skills.

The Rock Climbing ALS has been exploring rocks in Camden, Clifton and Acadia and will continue for their last session to Jocky Cap. This course is just the beginning for those leaders with a burning desire to lead rock climbing trips for the BOC. Though all have benefitted from the course only a few will continue their training to become rock climbing leaders. After the Rock Climbing ALS, those comfortable and confident enough in their skills will take a Single Pitch Instructor course with the American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA) this October.
