Summer has come and it seems after a few chilly mornings, gone as well. Classes have stared and campus is buzzing with acivity. Seeding and planting have slowed down or stopped all together, but produce is still being harvested at both South Street and at Pleasant Hill. We have begun to look forward to our fall crops of leeks, pumpkins, winter squash, onions, more carrots, beets, chard, kale, cabbage, and broccoli. Unfortunately like most of the state, we have also been hit with the tomato/potato blight. Wondering why you havn't seen many Maine grown tomatoe at the farmers market, or on your plate, well this is why. We are trying hard to keep this from spreading into next season. The wait will make those first few fruit next summer that much sweeter.
Classes are underway, the library and dinning halls are busy, but if you still have some free time stop by the gardens and lend a hand. There is always some fall clean up to do....let me know when you would like to come out......Enjoy the beautiful weather!
