Off to Market: Every morning on my way to class I would walk with the banana vendors as I approached the town market. Traditional Androy Dancing: Every night my village would celebrate with each other by playing music, singing, and dancing. Thanksgiving Fish: These men are bringing their pirogue on shore so that we can buy some of their day's catch for our Thanksgiving dinner that night

Horse on the Mongolian Steppe, April 2008. Mongolia has one of the world's harshest climates, and animals retain their winter coats well into the spring. Train Station in Severo-Baikal'sk, Russia, February 2008. The railroad links all of Siberia's remote settlements, and is often the only means of transportation between them. American barn on the Siberian Steppe? While Siberia may evoke images of frozen tundra and prison camps, much of it resembles the American great plains.

Katherine Krosschell (Hamilton College, Paris)

Château de Chenonceau. A beautiful castle built on a river, which housed both Catherine de Medicis and WWII wounded soldiers. The fog was perfect that morning. Sunrise through the Eiffel Tower. A view from Trocadero, a three minute walk from my apartment. A friend and I were walking to the Louvre at 7AM, and we couldn't miss this shot. Bourgeuil Wine. When my program took a trip to the Loire Valley, we participated in a wine-tasting in this cave, where there were bottles of wine stacked in every corner, covered with dust and dirt. The wine was delicious.

One session of our art history course took place near Pompidou in the little art galleries. This was one of the more memorable installations we came across. During a 9-day strike protesting President Sarkozy's new initiatives, everyone from students to chefs took to the streets and shut down Montparnasse, the equivalent of Broadway in New York. During the strike the students barricaded the universities and covered the walls in graffiti. Roughly translated this says: "Wake up! (Before it's TOO LATE)", then beside it, "And stop your BS".

My contact family took me out to their summer home in Dalarna, Sweden. Unfortunately it was mid-March but still beautiful countryside. On a program sponsored trip to the island of Gotland, Sweden, I waded my way into the chilly Baltic Sea in April. The university city of Uppsala is one of the most gorgeous and oldest settled areas of Sweden.

The Campidoglio of Rome at night. The Campidoglio is where the local government is run. A view of Rome and the surrounding mountains from the top of a hill just outside the city The summer crowds outside the Roman Pantheon

Assisi. One of my favorite travel adventures was a day trip to Assisi. This shot is taken from the "historic" Assisi looking over the "modern" Assisi. Christmas in Florence. Florence gets very excited about Christmas. The lights and decorations throughout the city at that time of year are amazing Ponte Vecchio Wedding. The Ponte Vecchio ("Old Bridge") is my favorite landmark in Florence. It has so much historical significance and is also beautiful enough for wedding pictures!

Stockholm is built on islands, which means that a walk through the city takes you over many bridges and provides many scenic views. This photo was taken from inside the City Hall (Stadshuset), looking out over the water. Skansen, the world's first open-air museum, is located in Stockholm. It is home to a number of preserved or replicated buildings from throughout Swedish history, including this one. By November, days in Stockholm started getting shorter and shorter. This photo, overlooking the trendy area of the city, Södermalm, was taken just before 4 in the afternoon.

Adam's Peak. We started hiking at midnight, along with hundreds of others at this popular pilgrimage spot, and reached the summit just as the sun began to rise. Before Drumming Class. The girls in my drumming class were usually quite talkative, but when I brought my camera one day they became super shy! My Favorite Tree. I would usually sit under this HUGE tree at the University of Peradeniya campus to eat the rice and curry that my host mother packed for me each day.
