New England Telemark (NET) and the Bowdoin Outing Club (BOC) will present the seventh annual Maine Telemark Film Festival, featuring the films Flakes by the Powderwhores, Harmless by Tough Guy Productions, and selected short telemark films, at 7 p.m., Friday, November 13, 2009, in Kresge Auditorium, Visual Arts Center.
The Maine Telemark Film Festival is free and open to the public. A lobby bazaar will feature refreshments, representatives from resorts, gear manufacturers and local ski shops, and raffle prizes. The Maine Telemark Film Festival celebrates and promotes the sport of telemark skiing in Maine, New England, and beyond. It is produced by New England Telemark and the Bowdoin College Outing Club, and with support from Black Diamond, Bath Cycle & Ski, Garmont, Flylow, K2, Skitrab, Saddleback, Sugarloaf/USA, Sunday River, Telemarkeast.com, 22 Designs, and Voilé.
New England Telemark is a group of telemark instructors dedicated to the teaching of the telemark turn. Originating in Maine in the early 1990s, NET now includes more than 30 instructors who to teach at NET Telemark festivals and clinics around New England.
The Bowdoin Outing Club, the largest student organization at Bowdoin, sends more than 130 outdoor trips into the field every year. The BOC Telemark Program provides PSIA-certified telemark instruction to BOC free-heelers in a season-long tele class.
