The Portland Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Robert Lehmann, will perform a program titled "Eight Seasons," at 3 pm. Saturday, September 13, in Studzinski Recital Hall, Kanbar Auditorium.
The program will feature Vivaldi's Four Seasons and Piazzolla's Four Seasons of Buenos Aires. Soloists include PCO Music Director Robert Lehmann and Portland Symphony Orchestra assistant concertmaster Nikola Takov.
Admission is $20 at the door; free to Bowdoin ID holders and members of the Association of Bowdoin Friends. No reservations, but patrons are strongly encouraged to arrive early, as seating is limited.
The mission of the Portland Chamber Orchestra is to provide a venue for the release of creative energy of some of the finest musicians in North America while serving the dynamic interests of chamber music enthusiasts. The Orchestra endeavors to introduce rarely heard chamber pieces and provide composers opportunities to introduce their art to the public for review and display.
Robert Lehmann is director of string studies and assistant professor of music and artist faculty in violin and viola at the University of Southern Maine School of Music, where his duties include conducting the Southern Maine Symphony Orchestra and the Portland Youth Symphony Orchestra.
Now in his ninth season as music director of the North Shore Philharmonic, he was the orchestra and board of directors' unanimous choice to become the fourth music director of this 59-year-old institution.
Prior to his appointment at USM he served as music director of the Mozart Society Orchestra at Harvard University, the Greater Boston Youth Symphonies, the Empire State Youth Repertory Orchestra and the Rhode Island Youth Philharmonic.
The Bowdoin concert is part of the University of Southern Maine's School of Music Spotlight Series.
