Catching the Moment, a new collection of work by nine Points of View artists, is on view in Lancaster Lounge, Moulton Union, through May 27, 2008. A reception with the artists will be held Saturday, May 17, from 4-6 p.m. All are welcome and admission is free.
Catching the Moment challenges each artist in every medium. The fleeting glory of light, the movement of the wind, reflections of the swiftly moving sun on statues and buildings — all of these images are visible in the works in this exhibit.
Craig Snapp's series of photographs of Pleasant Bay that shows change in the midst of permanence. Greene Marine, a pastel by Harriet Lindemann, captures the calm of a marsh on a lazy summer day. Mary Alice Treworgy's works focus on the stark contrasts produced by light falling on local buildings.
The exhibit also includes new portrait studies by Bonnie Dickey, photographs by Sarah Hansen that reflect her keen sense of humor and clever eye, and drawings and paintings by Pat Hix.
Catching the Moment may also refer to the serendipity present in most creative endeavors. Barbara Snapp's watercolor monotypes evoke images in the midst of an abstract jumble of colors, textures, and patterns. Singularity and Galactic Rebirth are abstract acrylics by Barbara Bean that suggest cosmic images. Judith Long has used fabric, wood and translucent paper to create a series of miniature kimonos mounted on hand-crafted Japanese-style Shoji screens.
The exhibition is open whenever Moulton Union is open, unless Lancaster Lounge is being used for a campus meeting. For more information call 725-3375.
