The first Friday in May will find dozens of Bowdoin's performing and visual arts students bringing their creativity and talents to the campus Quad for a series of al fresco performances.

The entertainments begin with "Museum Pieces," a Bowdoin tradition for more than 20 years, presented as the final Common Hour of the academic year.

"Museum Pieces" celebrates spring in front of the Bowdoin College Museum of Art with dancing and music from the Department of Theater and Dance, featuring class projects, independent student work, and student clubs. The performance begins at 12:30 p.m., Friday, May 2, 2008.

Following "Museum Pieces," students will present a Renaissance wedding procession on the Quad, with bride, groom, and entourage in costume, with ephemeral architecture designed and created by architecture and theater students. The procession, which begins at approximately 1:30 p.m., is presented in conjunction with the Museum's major exhibition, Beauty and Duty: The Art and Business of Renaissance Marriage, which runs through July 27, 2008.

The wedding procession will be followed by a performance of scenes from Shakespeare's Much Ado about Nothing. The performance, titled Not so Much Ado about Nothing, features students from the Acting Shakespeare class, taught by Nina Pleasants. The action will pick up with Act III, Scene 4, and proceed through to the end of the play. Not so Much Ado about Nothing is also presented in conjunction with Beauty and Duty

All events are open to the public and admission is free.
