Panel Presentation on Theological Education October 6

Story posted October 04, 2004

"Religion, Spirituality and Your Career," a panel presentation on graduate and professional studies in theological education, will be held on the Bowdoin campus at 7 p.m., Wednesday, October 6, in the Admissions Office, Burton-Little House, at the corner of Upper Park Row and College Street.

The presentation, which is free and open to the public, will address such issues as:

  • What is theological education?
  • Is it only for Christians, or do Muslims, Buddhists, Jews, Hindus or those of no particular faith tradition also pursue graduate theological degrees?
  • What professions do graduates of theological education go into?
  • How are religious leaders of faith communities trained to lead?
  • What is a Master of Divinity Degree?

Representatives from Harvard Divinity School, Bangor Theological Seminary, Andover Newton Theological School and Yale Divinity School will be the speakers.

Theological education has a long and quiet history of producing great leaders and scholars as well as everyday community heroes and advocates for social justice. Graduates in the field go on to successful careers ranging from the ministry to medicine, law, and teaching. This presentation is meant to help those interested to learn how theological studies can blend intellectual gifts and compassion for a fulfilling vocation.

The presentation will also be offered at Bates College Thursday, October 7, and at Colby College Friday, October 8. More information is available at the Career Planning offices of each college, or from:
