A number of important construction, renovation, and maintenance projects are currently underway at the College – improvements that will significantly enhance the academic program and student life. While we will continue to work diligently with our architects and contractors to minimize the impact on daily life at Bowdoin, a certain amount of noise and inconvenience is inevitable. The purpose of this site is to provide details about the major projects underway and a timetable for their completion.
The College will be incorporating building sustainability features into each of the construction projects. These standards include recycling waste and purchasing energy efficient lighting and products. Applying criteria from the Green Building Council and campus renovation standards, the College will strive to make the buildings energy efficient and environmentally sound. At the new Recital Hall and the Walker Art Building, the College will be using geo-thermal pumps and technology to heat and cool the buildings.
A number of campus construction projects, some already underway, are planned for summer 2009 and will be accompanied by some detours for pedestrians.
Construction of the new Fitness, Health and Wellness Center is underway. In June 2008, crews began the demolition and construction process in Sargent Gym for the four-level, $15.5 million addition.
