West African Music Ensemble (Music 2701/2702)

The ensemble will not meet in the Fall of 2017, but will resume in the spring.

About the Ensemble

The Bowdoin World Music Ensemble was established in 2000 to provide opportunities for students to perform music outside the Western art tradition. Its repertoire has included music for African mbira and drumming ensembles; Cuban, Puerto Rican, Brazilian, Colombian and Jamaican music; and music of the Middle East. Directors and guest artists have included Joanna Bosse, Michael Birenbaum Quintero, Michael Wingfield, Robert Greenlee, Daniel Sharp, Jordan Benissan, and Abraham Adzenyah.

The Ensemble is a group of students with varying backgrounds, including some with no prior music experience. Music is usually learned without notation, and performances can vary from informal concerts to processions at College events.
