Thomas W. Roulston '68

Citation for Thomas W. Roulston, 1994 Common Good Award recipient.

"Thomas Roulston, Bowdoin College is proud to honor you during this bicentennial year for your exceptional service to the common good.

As co-founder and president of City Stage Company, Boston, you have focused your life's work on the value of theater in promoting racial and ethnic tolerance.  You have effectively used drama, role-playing, and interactive video with at-risk youth as a means of dispelling fear and prejudice.  Your creative exhibitions and videos have been used at museums and cultural centers nationwide.  Through arts education in public schools, daycare centers, social service agencies, churches, and arts organizations throughout the greater Boston area, you have made a significant impact on the lives of thousands of children.

As a producer you brought M.L.K.:  We  Are The Dream, a tribute to Martin Luther King, to a national audience.  Through all of your work, you have promoted hope, dignity, and self respect to an increasingly challenged society.  It is an honor for your alma mater to recognize your contributions by presenting you with one of Bowdoin's highest honors, the Common Good Award."
