Brunswick writer David Treadwell is writing about people who quietly contribute to the quality of life in greater Portland. Native Mainer Caroline Blake '14 caught his eye.
From her short term service work in Washington, D.C. last spring with an Alternative Spring Break trip to a 10 week Community Matters in Maine summer fellowship at Community Financial Literacy to a term long commitment in Professor Wheelwright's community-based Spanish course tutoring at Centro Latino, Caroline has taken full advantage Bowdoin's offer of opportunities for students to discover the ways in which their talents, passions and academic pursuits can be used for the benefit of society through public engagement.
"Having grown up in a small town in Maine, I wasn’t fully aware of the spectrum of other people’s experiences, such as the challenges of refugees to learn English."
